Department of Physical Education

Our course design covers both theory and practice. By diversified opportunities and Industry-academia cooperation model, our program would strengthen the students’ knowledge and skills. In the aspect of common required courses, we want students to enrich the knowledge of humanities and technologies, to prepare the students’ sensitivities and analytical skills in response to the trend of current of time. In specialized areas, we divided our department into two fields: (i) physical activities teaching; (ii) children’s and seniors’ physical education. The field of physical activities teaching can prepare preeminent instructors in physical education for elementary schools, physical administrators, and trainers in physical related professions. The field of children’s and seniors’ physical education is to develop the instructor particularly for children’s and seniors’ physical activities and administrators. Our department has a total of 14 faculty and staff, including 9 full-time professors, 4 associate professors, and 1 lecturer. Within our faculty team, 10 of our 14 members have a Ph.D. degree. Their research fields range from humanity, exercise technology and instrumental courses. Our facility resources are equipped with a gym (includes composite courts, dancing classrooms, aerobic classrooms, table tennis rooms, and weight rooms), running tracks, tennis courts, basketball courts and other experimental laboratories.

In addition, we hold physical performance presentations annually for students as outdoor learning experience, practical experience in elementary schools and children’s education, sport competition and academic conferences. We expect that students can operate what they learn from the classroom into a practical experience through participating activity plans and execution so that students can hone their professional skills. Also, part of our course design will arrange practical field experience to improve the students’ understanding of future job markets and strengthen their service spirits.

TEACHING GOALS AND CHARACTERISTICS

I. Undergraduate

To continue teacher’s training and our characteristics, we have four main educational goals described below:

A. Prepare physical instructors in elementary schools and administrators in physical education.

B. Prepare physical instructors in children’s and seniors’ activities and administrators in related fields.

C.  Cultivate professionals with virtue and ethical values.

D. Cultivate the thinking and researching ability for the foundation of academic physical research

II. Graduate

A. Integrate related science, physical teaching, fitness broadcasting, leisure management, and physical administration.

B. Strengthen academic researchers and promote the atmosphere of academic research.

C. Deepen our international academic relationship, increase the development of our leisure activities and its academic research, and to improve our living quality by leisure activities

COURSE STRUCTURE

I. Undergraduate

A. General Courses: requires 28 credit hours

This category includes common courses (such as Physical Education、Service related courses and Advanced English) for zero credit hour、16 credit hours for foundation courses and 12 credit hours for other department provided courses; for field related courses, students should select 2 credit hours from the courses that are provided by other departments.

B. Major Courses: requires 90 credit hours

Courses in this category include 20 required course credit hours, 26 required technical course credit hours, 22 physical activities teaching credit hours, and 22 children’s and seniors’ physical education credit hours.

C. Optional Courses

     d. Courses that are not related to education subjects
